What percentage of people who rant about economics have even remotely studied the subject?

I say it's gotta be less than 5%. The level of ignorance is frightening. My goodness, we have people pretending that massive tax increases will be a positive for the economy. What percentage of people who rant about economics have even remotely studied the subject?
Your correct and I think 0% of our do nothing congress. They could not balance a check book if there was only two entires in it.What percentage of people who rant about economics have even remotely studied the subject?
I have studied Economics. I took it in high school and minored in it in college. Here's what I learned:

You can not simultaneously run a two theater war and cut taxes to historic lows.
It might be a bit higher than that. I would suggest that the higher percentage exists among the percentage who actually understand economics at all.

I had one course in economics in college and was baffled by it. That's why I majored in Political Science.

Judging from our current economic situation...it would appear I am the norm and not the exception.
Who ever has

A pocket

A purse

Some common sense

May understand every day's ';economics';. Some of the degree holders may even be 'biased'.
I think the percentage would be a little higher than 5%, as many High Schools offer economics studies as elective courses. I do feel it should be a mandatory course of study for all High Schools.

It is not just economics on Y/A,:

Many who have not studied Politics feel qualified to comment.

Many who have not studied Military History or Strategy feel qualified to comment.

Many who have not studied Medicine or Psychology feel qualified to comment.

This is the great thing about The USA, all are free to speak their mind, qualified or not.
With 85% having high school educations and 27% having attended 4 or more years of college. I would think that it would be a little higher than 5% of the total population having taken an economics class.

I would also agree that basically 100% of the people rant to some degree about some aspects of economics 101.
Seems like your estimate is a bit low.

How about just a tax increase on the ultra wealthy. The top 1% of income earners are responsible for about 1/2 of the income earned.

And how about the FICA tax being placed on more than the current $90,000 of income and having it paid on ALL income? That would provide a solvency for Social Security for years to come.
Instead of teaching multiculturism and other politically correct classes in schools - children should be required to take personal finance and economics (from a businessperson educator - not a union stooge) as well as reading, writing and math.

This is where this ignorance starts from -- plus constant liberal media goobledygook about taking care of ';victims'; that are so easily made and found.
You can't rant if you know nothing about the subject. The tax increases are the mantra coming from the democratic party. They want them so they can buy more votes and make all of the ignorance people more dependent on the government. That also includes the illegal immigrants.

California and the Feds are both great examples of poor economic choices. Basically you can't spend what you don't have unless you're the state ot federal government.

Many American are in debt up to they ears because of their over spending and poor choices.

You know that you have grown up went you can manage you life and your budget.
I'd tend to agree that most people have a poor background in economics. I'd also say that most people have not studied enough sociology and political science to understand what impact tax increases or decreases would have on the society.

If someone comes up to me and says ';it's always better to have lower taxes';, I dismiss their opinion just as quickly as if they said ';it's always better to have higher taxes';.

Edit: Judging from the other responses to this question, I'd say that the VAST majority of people don't know the difference between microeconomics and macroeconomics.
